Trick to remember which side you last breastfed on.

What new breastfeeding mom can always remember which side she last fed on? Not me! I was the worst at this, especially during those sleep deprived nights with a newborn. Over feeding on one side caused me clogs more than once. Ugh!

I finally heard of a method to help remember what breast to nurse with and all it takes is a stretchy bracelet, hair elastic, or scrunchie. It made such a difference in reducing the amount of clogs I got.

All you do is keep that hair elastic on the wrist that you should breastfeed from next. That is it. Each time you breastfeed, you move it to the other wrist. Then you never get mixed up or have to wonder what side you are on.

You wake up in the middle of the night and wonder what side you need to breastfeed from next? Just look to your wrist!

Tips for this trick:

  • Use a different colored hair elastic than the one you normally keep on your wrist. And don’t accidentally put this one in your hair.

  • If using a bracelet, make sure it is a stretchy one that you can easily move. You don’t want to be messing around with a clasp in the middle of the night.

  • Transfer the elastic at the same time during each feed so that you create a habit and don’t forget to switch it. So if you always move it to the other wrist at the beginning of a feed, keep doing it at the beginning.

I hope this helps some other forgetful mom out there. The newborn stage is hard enough without having to remember which breast to feed from next.

Let me know if you try it and if it helps!
