How to Ship Breastmilk for Keepsakes

Shipping breastmilk for jewelry and keepsakes is actually very simple! However, there are a few specific instructions to follow to make sure it makes it to me in a useable condition.

Step 1: Measure out 10-15ml of breastmilk

  • It takes a minimum of 5ml of breastmilk for jewelry and keepsakes, but please send 10-15ml in case of leaks or other unexpected situations.

  • Please note that this is asking for MILLILITERS and not ounces! Sending more than 15ml in a bag drastically increases the risk of leaks.

  • If sending two different milks, please clearly label each with a note stating which breastmilk belongs in each keepsake.

  • Even though there is no need to ship the milk frozen or refrigerated, please pre-thaw any frozen milk before shipping to prevent condensation from damaging your package. This is also an important step to check for any damage to your bag that could have caused leaks.

Step 2: Triple bag your breastmilk in sterile bags.

  • Triple bagging ensures that leaks are contained.

  • Sterile bags are to ensure that the milk does not mold. Breastmilk bags are great for this! If needed, you can use Ziplock bags for the second and third layers, but please tape around the edges for extra security from leaks.

  • For personal safety reasons, we do not accept any milk containing blood.

Step 3: Label everything please

  • Please include your order number and full name inside of your envelope. This can be written on a post-it note or a piece of paper, just please remember to include it. If these are not included, there is no way to track you down.

Step 4: Package everything in a bubble mailer

  • Please mail your inclusions in a bubble mailer padded envelope to protect your shipment. This works best if you take it to the post office to get it weighed and a printed shipping label.

  • Please bag all inclusions separately within your envelope. This is especially true for those containing breastmilk. We do not want your breastmilk to spread to other inclusions in case of a leak.

  • DO NOT send registered mail requiring a signature upon delivery. We cannot make special trips to the post office for package retrieval in the event we were not there to sign off on the package. First Class or priority mail without signature work well!

  • Please mail your inclusions to the address below:

At any time, you may send a message if you have a problem or a question about shipping your breastmilk. Any leftover preserved milk will be kept on file for at least a year in case of repairs or if you would like to order another keepsake. (I say that I keep it for a year, but in reality, I have never thrown out any leftover breastmilk yet. So even if it has been over a year, please send me a message and check to see if I still have your milk.)

I currently check my PO Box once a week and will do intake following pick up. Once I receive your milk, I will send you an email letting you know that I have it. You are responsible to make sure that your breastmilk gets to me. If you do not receive a confirmation email that it got to me, please feel free to reach out! It is very rare that it gets lost in the mail, but it is not unheard of.

The full instructions for shipping breastmilk and inclusions are emailed to you when you place your order and can also be found in the footer section of the website.
